Jewelry artist, Deborah Kwitney, has been creating art in one form or another for as long as she can recall. It started in the Finger Lakes region of New York on a rainy spring day when she made pies from wet dirt and “baked” them until they were done.
Another memory takes place in an elementary school classroom. The art project
for that morning was to “copy” a picture of a little boy standing with a fishing
pole displaying his catch of the day. As Deborah worked diligently on the
assignment, her teacher approached and complimented her efforts. And without
warning, the teacher declared, “Students, I would like you all to stop what you
are doing and look at Deborah’s drawing. This is how it should be done.” As the
teacher spoke, she held up the drawing for all to see. At that moment, Deborah
learned the meaning of pride and ever since has been driven to create art
whenever possible.
